Gifted and Talented Referral Q&A Session Flyer (PNG)
Gifted & Talented Referral Virtual Q&A Session

New Kent County Public Schools will host a Gifted & Talented Referral Virtual Q&A Session on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026, from 5-6 p.m. The session is open to all NKCPS parents and guardians of students in grades K–12.

Families are invited to join at any point during the hour to ask questions and learn more about the referral process from NKCPS Gifted Resource Teachers. The session will be held via Google Meet at https://meet.google.com/jhb-sxdf-mhz.

NKCPS is currently accepting Gifted & Talented referrals through September 30th, 2026. For more information about the Gifted & Talented Program, please visit the NKCPS Gifted & Talented Program webpage.

Understanding Diabetes: A Guide for Families from the VDOE and VDH

New Kent County Public Schools wants to ensure that families have the information they need to understand diabetes mellitus type 1 and type 2 by sharing resources compiled by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).

Families are strongly encouraged to maintain regular well-child checkups with their child's healthcare provider and consult with them about any health concerns. We also suggest that parents and guardians visit the VDH Prediabetes and Diabetes webpage for more information.

Book Fair Volunteers Needed.

Volunteers can help by:

  • 📚 Helping students find books
  • 🛒 Keeping the fair organized and stocked
  • 🧾 Assisting with checkout
  • ❤️ Creating a fun, welcoming experience
  • 🙌 Supporting the school and library

Important dates:

  • Book Fair begins: Monday, September 14th
  • School-year kickoff: Thursday evening, September 17th

GWES Fall Picture Day!
GWES Fall Picture Day!

George Watkins Elementary Yearbook Picture Day is Monday, October 12.

  • All students will be photographed for student identification and the yearbook unless an opt-out form has been completed for the 26-27 school year.
  • Students should wear solid, bright colors and avoid reflective jewelry.
  • Families can prepay for pictures online by:
    • Scanning the QR code, or
    • Visiting candidcolor.net
    • Using prepay code: GWKEPREPAY
  • Picture Day is also a school fundraiser.

Free or Reduced-Price School Meals Application

The flyer reminds families to submit a Free and Reduced Price School Meals application for the 2026–27 school year if they have not already done so.

  • Benefits will stop on October 6, 2026 if the school does not have a current application on file.
  • Families should complete an application if they want to receive free or reduced-price meals and any other benefits tied to the application.
  • Applications can be completed online at www.myschoolapps.com
