Our Mission: New Kent County Public Schools will equip every student with the knowledge, skills, and character to excel in the three Es (Employment, Enlistment, and Enrollment). Save the Date: I’m Determined Annual Youth & Family Summit

The I’m Determined Annual Youth & Family Summit will be held June 9th-11th, 2026, at James Madison University. Sponsored by the Virginia Department of Education and the Partnership for People with Disabilities, this three-day event brings together youth with disabilities (ages 14-18) and their families for networking, learning, and empowerment through sessions focused on competence, autonomy, and relatedness. Accepted families receive free meals and lodging, and registration runs from November 17th, 2025, to January 11th, 2026.

New Parent Portal for Virginia IEP Now Available

New Kent County Public Schools now offers the Connect Parent Portal for Virginia IEP, giving parents and guardians secure online access to their child’s special education documents. Through this portal, families can view IEPs, progress reports, and evaluations, as well as sign and respond electronically. Notifications will come from noreply@pcgus.com with a secure link and access code for login. For details and instructions, review NKCPS Director of Student Services Dr. Christine Young’s letter and the Parent Guide or contact your child’s case manager for assistance.

VDOE Annual Resources Update for Students with Sensory Disabilities Now Available

New Kent County Public Schools has posted the Virginia Department of Education’s Annual Resources Update for Serving Students with Sensory Disabilities (Revised October 2025) on its Student Services Resources webpage. This update provides essential information and guidance for families of students who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, visually impaired, or deaf-blind, including available services, state agency contacts, and support programs. Printed copies and alternate formats are available upon request.

GWES Earns Heart Safe School Designation and VSBA Recognition

George W. Watkins Elementary School has been designated as a Project ADAM Heart Safe School, one of only 33 schools in Virginia to earn this distinction, and was featured in the Virginia School Boards Association’s 2025 Showcases for Success Newsletter. This recognition highlights the school’s commitment to cardiac emergency preparedness through rigorous measures such as training a response team, installing AEDs, and conducting annual drills. Led by school nurse Amanda Akrie and supported by Principal Tammy Krejcarek, GWES partnered with the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU to achieve this milestone, ensuring the highest level of safety for students and staff.
